We’ve all heard or even said on occasion, “It’s the little things in life . . . “. It seems I have been saying that a lot lately and now I am wondering why. Could it be that as I am maturing and, hopefully, growing a little wiser, my perspective is finally becoming less about me and more about the important things in life?
As I went about my routine on this typical day, I jotted down some of the “little things” that I enjoy and appreciate. Not surprisingly, every little thing costs little or nothing. Every little thing is about someone else, a spiritual awakening, a pleasant memory, or God’s creation. Some of the “little things” that make me happy are: the smell of baby powder, watching a rerun of a “Leave It To Beaver” or “Andy Griffith” episode clean sheets old photographs hearing an old song on the radio that reminds me of high school the smell of rain in the middle of July my first cup of coffee in the morning – brewed and delivered to me by my husband butterflies flitting around my flowers hiking through the woods listening to my mother as she reminisces about her life receiving one of my daughter’s handmade cards; riding my bicycle and hugs
The Bible says, “...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink...what you will wear.” And, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” These words were not added into scripture to just fill up space but are intended to give us guidance and direction to keep our minds free so that we can enjoy all the goodness and blessings in life.
Take it from one who knows how to become bogged down with worry over the future, the past, and everything in between – remember the little things in life. It’s those things that bring real happiness and peace into your heart and mind.
